Group Interventions
We typically run group programs each year based on interest we get from families. These groups require a commitment to the full term of intervention due to the importance of group consistency and social connection/trust. Our groups are confirmed based on clinician availability and appropriate age matching, and are held at our clinic, and available to be held at schools by request. Typically, an intake is required to gather a developmental history for your child and to assess whether a group setting is the appropriate for the desired goals. Please fill out the expression of interest form below to be on our contact list for the next time our groups are available.
Emotion Regulation and Social Skills Workshop
(7-12 year olds)
Displays of behaviour that seem out of character or extreme very often stem from intense feelings or emotions. We might not even be aware of these emotions, and if asked, we might feel unable to answer the question, “What are you feeling?” But if we do not understand our emotions, we will find it difficult to regulate them.
In this program, we will help children to unpack their emotional experiences by together answering some useful questions such as:
- What are emotions?
- How do emotions manifest in our body?
- What triggers our emotional responses?
- How do emotions and thoughts interact?
- How do we regulate our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours?

Hunter and His Amazing Remote Control
(6-10 year olds)
Hunter and His Amazing Remote Control is a group intervention using the idea of a brain remote control to help build skills around attention, problem solving and regulation. We run this intervention over 8 sessions. These skills support emotion regulation and many more functions, as well as the group mode allowing for social connection and skill building! Â
We read Hunter and His Amazing Remote Control (Copeland, 1988) together and explore these functions across the program:Â
- Channel changer – Filtering out distractions
- Pause – Stopping to think, relax, and create a plan
- Fast Forward – Thinking before acting
- Rewind – Shifting focus from past mistakes to future change
- Slow motion – Solving problems
- Zapper – Recognising and rejecting negative thinking
- Way to go! – Using positive self-talkÂ
